Emery is one of our Baby’s First Year babies who had a 1 year shoot in July. Her family lives in Dallas, TX and they selected the Fort Worth Stockyards for their session. When people think Stockyards, they think country and cowboys, but it’s so much more than that. It really has more of an urban vibe in some areas, rustic in others and a wide open grassy area I also really like to shoot in. It can get really crowded, so we really prefer weekday shoots there, but we can make weekends work if we need to. I had a great time photographing Emery and her family, they are so full of love and such good parents! They didn’t want to do a full on cake smash, so they just brought a bunch of balloons so we could get more of a birthday celebration look at the end of the session.
We did lots of family shots, but this was one of my favorites. The day was scorching hot, but I’m so glad mom and dad wore jeans because they look so good in their photos. In outdoor shoots, you can’t expect the weather to always cooperate, you may be sweaty, hair could be blowing, but the end result is always beautiful!
The majority of my images I prefer in color, but black and whites can be so stunning. I normally choose about 5-10 images to edit in black and white as well as color.
Georgia was our other 1 year shoot for July. We also did some gorgeous family images, but I really wanted to showcase her pink and turquoise cake smash fun! Cake smash shoots can look just as adorable outside as they do in the studio.
Georgia has huge smiles and is really a ham so she is pretty easy to photograph. If you are planning a cake smash, many moms go with the colors and theme of the first birthday party. But it doesn’t have to be. Any bright and cheery color looks so festive and nothing says “I’m 1!” like a cake smash session.
These 1 year old signs have gotten pretty popular. If you get a sign, make sure it’s not framed in glass, there will be a big glare on the glass and will look bad in pictures.
