Frequently Asked Questions

How long will the session last?
Newborn sessions are the marathons, lasting from 2 to 3 hours, any other portrait session lasts from 30 minutes to a 2 hours depending on locations and age of the child.

Do you photograph weddings or birthday parties?
I do not. However, I love bridal portraits and engagement sessions.

When do you do newborn photos?
4 days to 3 weeks. Otherwise the newborn is too alert and not as curled up. Although the end result will still be precious, we can not get them in those same sleepy positions that we are known for.

What do I need to bring to the newborn session?
I have a loaded studio filled with props, backdrops, those teeny tiny hats, headbands and other accessories that you have seen in my newborn images. Feel free to bring anything special that you would like to incorporate into your baby’s session. Most people just show up with their baby and I will take care of the styling. A pacifier can make the difference between an ok newborn session and a fantastic one, so don’t forget that. I promise they will just take a few sucks between poses and definitely won’t leave the studio addicted. 🙂 If they baby is bottle fed, bring some bottles.

When should I schedule my maternity session?
Maternity photos are best done at 30-35 weeks.

Can I buy digital images?
Absolutely! These are the most popular item we offer. They are put on a USB with a print agreement. Digital files are sized to be printed up to an 8×12 and can be reproduced as many times as you would like. Share them on Facebook, post them on a blog and use them for holiday cards or birth announcements. We only recommend printing your images at www.mpix.com.

Can I buy Christmas cards and birth announcements through you?
Yes! We love to be your one stop shop. You start by selecting one of our hundreds of templates, and then choosing which images you want to use on the card. I will design your card with colors and text to compliment your photos. You can pick from a few different finishes and all or our cards are press printed from our professional photo lab.

Do you offer mini sessions?
Sometimes. I like to do a bluebonnet mini and usually one or two others a year.

What is an ordering appointment?
This appointment is made with Lauren about 3 weeks after your session. You will get to see the slide show of images on our big tv and then sort through printed 5×7 proofs. Lauren will have lots of samples of our products and will talk you through the ordering process. Your place your order with Lauren and pay at this time. As soon as she gets back to the office we get started on processing your order.

What if I have out of town family that wants to order?
If you have family that can not attend the ordering appointment, they can FaceTime to make their selections or just order from the USB at a later date.

What is included in the session fee?
This fee is required to book your appointment. It covers the pre session preparations, the photographer’s time and talent, editing of the images and the ordering appointment. It does not include any prints, products or digital images. Those are all purchased at the ordering appointment.

Do you photograph births?
No. We have such a full portrait session calendar that there is no room for me to be on call for births. I would love to, I just can’t squeeze it in.

Why is my session not on the blog?
It will be soon. I try to blog every day, so if you don’t see yours yet, check back often.

When can I expect to see the pictures?
I do a Facebook preview within 24 hours of the session. Feel free to share it, use it as your profile or cover photo, just try not to crop out the logo please. The rest of the proofs will be seen at your ordering appointment about three weeks after the session.

How many proofs do we get from a session?
Anywhere from 20-50 depending on the type of session. I am all for quality over quantity!

How long does it take to get my order?
About 1-4 weeks after the ordering appointment. Prints only take a few days to come in, digital images are packaged and ready in a day or two, canvas wraps take 2 weeks, anything that requires design can take up to 4 weeks depending on how quickly the proof is approved.

What kind of camera do you use?
Nikon D5
Back up camera is a Nikon D800

How do you keep the newborns asleep?
A warm studio, white noise, soothing techniques and a lot of experience.

Did you go to school for photography?
No. I went to Texas Tech University and graduated with a degree in Human Development and Family Studies. I also attended SMU in Dallas where I got my early childhood through 4th grade teacher certification. I have taken numerous workshop and classes to sharpen my photography skills.

I get most of my little newborn accessories on etsy. If you have a newborn session coming up and would like to pick out some of your own accessories, just go on etsy and search around.  I have several favorite backdrop vendors I use and I get props online, at antique stores, hobby lobby, wherever something catches my eye.

Do you photograph extended families?
Yes I do!
